Welcome to Merthen Manor

Owned by the Vyvyan family and dating back to 1575, the house is set off the beaten track in 100 acres of woodland above the Helford River on the eastern side of the Lizard peninsular between the villages of Gweek and Constantine, 7 miles from Falmouth.

Self catering accommodation consists of a separate spacious and comfortable barn loft, which is part of a painstaking conversion from a Grade 2 listed barn. The Manor House and the barn include many original features. The Loft is separated from the Manor House by a stone courtyard and has its own access, garden and parking. Mary Vyvyan also provides
Bed & Breakfast accommodation in the Manor House for shorter stays or guests who prefer Bed & Breakfast

Many visitors return year after year and are just as happy curled up reading a book on the sofa next to the fire, as they are visiting local beaches or exploring Cornwall's many attractions. Children are free to play in the gardens and the tennis court. There are frequently other children (and dogs) with whom to play and make friends. Generally the emphasis is on peace and quiet, plenty of Cornish air and relaxed informality with other guests and the permanent residents.

Although the house itself is hidden away down a mile long drive, the location itself is well placed to explore the diversity of landscape that characterise South West Cornwall. The picturesque beauty of the Helford and the Falmouth estuaries with their wooded valleys, hidden creeks and stunning gardens contrast well with the more unrestrained wild beauty of the Lizard's cliffs, fishing villages and hidden coves. In addition the larger, more surfer friendly beaches on the North coast near Hayle and St. Ives are only a 35 minute drive. To the west Penzance is but miles.

Local attractions include the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth, the National Seal Sanctuary in Gweek, Flambards Theme Park in Helston, Trebah and Glendurgan gardens on the Helford. Sailing, golf and horse riding are all readily available. Lands End and the Eden project are also less than 30 miles away.

There are also plenty of beaches suitable for all ages and tastes within a 25 minute car ride and a considerable amount of local knowledge and advice just across the courtyard.
